SPINNER Fiber optic rotary joints
SPINNER is one of the world’s leading producers of high-performance rotary joints and supplies fiber optic rotary joints, radio frequency (RF) rotary joints, contactless power transmission modules, slip rings, multi-media joints and contactless data transmission as well as any combination of the aforementioned types.
Our specialties also include integrated data and power transmission solutions with a small form factor. Fiber optic rotary joints (FORJ) in particular require an extremely exact assembly of all optical and mechanical components in cleanroom environments.
You can configure your own fiber optic rotary joint according to your needs. Download drawing, datasheet and more information and immediately request a quote!

Benefits of Fiber Optic Connections
Fiber optic rotary joints provide a digital data transmission rate of up to 40 Gbit/s and more per channel. Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) allows transmission of multiple data channels via a single fiber optic link. SPINNER can have mixed configurations with Multi Mode and Single Mode fibers in one unit and provides flexibility for the configuration of any 2-60 channel fiber optic rotary joints. For radar applications and other analog signals SPINNER units are very sensitive with low insertion loss over rotation and do have a very good phase stability.
SPINNER rotary joints have robust fiber optic sensors for a wide range of applications. The Benefit is, that there are no EMI and EMC issues. SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints can be used for Fiber Bragg Sensors as well for any other optical sensors.

Fiber Optic Core Features
SPINNER fiber optics guarantee a high performance with low insertion loss and high return loss values. While Rotating there is a low variation, a narrow insertion loss band across all channels of a multi-channel fiber optic rotary joint. Multi-channel fiber optic rotary joints provide excellent phase stability
We support the following fiber types
- Single-mode E9/125 μm
- Multi-mode G50/125 μm (also G62.5/125 μm)
- Special fibers, e.g. for low bending radiuses or large-core fibers
SPINNER Fiber optic rotary joints match many environmental protection requirements - IP code protection for harsh environmental conditions, high-temperature capability for implementation in RF systems and hydrostatic pressure capability for deep-sea applications.
All fiber-optic components are assembled in an ISO Class 7 cleanroom environment and 100% tested. Every component is assigned a unique serial number.
Applications
The SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints x.65pc is protection class IP68 and highly seawater resistant. Hence it is ideally suitable for Tether Management Systems in offshore applications.
The low-profile, extremely lightweight SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 1.14 / 1.14 L are designed for environments characterized by strong vibrations and shocks. The SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 1.14 is typically integrated in airborne targeting systems of UAVs, aircrafts or helicopters.
SPINNER single-channel fiber optic rotary joints with contactless power for 360° sight systems: SPINNER offers a completely contactless rotary joint system comprising a DC power transmission module and a fiber optic channel. The fiber optic channel is tightly integrated in the DC power module. This results in an extremely compact form factor and permits rotational speeds up to 3,000 rpm.
SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 1.14 with waveguides and slip ring for weather radars: SPINNER combines fiber optic rotary joints typically with single and dual channel RF rotary joints for frequency ranges in S-, C- and X-band.
Ethernet connections with SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 1.22 and SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 1.22 for wind power stations: today’s wind turbines have to meet increasing demands with regard to energy yield, efficiency, and reliability. To meet these requirements, the systems linking the rotor blades and the control electronics in the nacelle must transmit signals at ever-greater speeds. To optimize data transfer, SPINNER offers innovative solutions that have been specially developed to meet the requirements of the wind power market.
The SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 1.14 with slip ring is the perfect match for cable-suspended camera systems. SPINNER’s miniature slip ring/fiber optic rotary joints combinations with diameters as small as 22 mm enable interference-free video data transmission in 4K and 8K quality, also with fast-moving images.
SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 2.25 with slip ring is engineered for revolving stages in theatres on ocean liners. Single- and multi-mode fiber optic rotary joints with between two and 20 channels are used whenever it isn‘t feasible to multiplex digital signals. This is the case in radar applications requiring high-performance transmission of multiple phased signals, in which A/D conversion errors would be unacceptable.
For long-term continuous applications that require DC power and high data throughput, SPINNER supplies a completely contactless rotary joint system. The single-channel fiber optic rotary joints 1.14L, SPINNER 100 W contactless DC/DC converter with free inner diameter for fiber optic rotary joints and SPINNER 300 W contacless DC/DC converter with free inner diameter for fiber optic rotary joints are highly recommended for such requirements.
SPINNER fiber optic rotary joints 1.17 / 1.17pc: designed for communicating with ROVs operating at depths down to 4500 m
